Express

OVERVIEW

Express is designed for athletes ready to push beyond fundamentals. Through competitive play, advanced drills, and team-building, players refine their skills in a fast-paced environment built for growth. This program is the only one in the association that requires tryouts to ensure athletes are placed at the appropriate level of play.

 

WHAT TO EXPECT

Express runs for 4 months in the winter, offering competitive-level basketball for athletes ready to take their game to the next level. Players train and compete in a team environment that emphasizes skill refinement, advanced strategy, and sportsmanship. Players who make a team will typically practice 1-2 nights per week and play in up to 5 tournaments per season (local and out-of-town).

AGES 9 to 15 years old

DURATION Runs runs for about 16 weeks from mid-February to mid-June.

FOCUS AREAS Skill refinement, team strategy, conditioning, sportsmanship, and leadership.

PROGRAM COST More info coming soon. Fees cover coaching, facility use, tournament registration fees, jerseys and warm-up shirts (players keep these).

  • Express is a competitive program. Players offered a roster spot are expected to:

    • Attend all practices and games consistently.

    • Make basketball a priority during the season.

    • Demonstrate sportsmanship and respect for teammates, opponents, and officials.

    • Commit to personal growth and team development throughout the season.

    • Uphold the values of the association on and off the court.

Tryout information

Becoming an Express athlete is about more than skills — it’s about mindset, commitment, and readiness to compete.
Here’s how the process works:

Step 1: Sign Up
Secure your spot by registering online for the upcoming tryout dates.

Step 2: Show Up & Stand Out
Arrive ready to give your best. Coaches will be watching for teamwork, discipline, and competitive drive.

Step 3: Evaluation
Our coaching team meets after tryouts to evaluate each athlete’s performance, ensuring every player is placed where they can grow and contribute most.

Step 4: Team Announcement
Teams will be announced via email and past and current
rosters can be viewed here. Selected players will receive registration details and season schedules.

Tournaments

The Express teams play in up to 5 tournaments per season. Coaches will select tournaments in consultation with families and locations may include local events as well as travel to Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, or farther. Travel costs (gas, hotels, meals) are the responsibility of families.

We encourage parents to coordinate carpools and support each other during travel weekends.

 
 
 

FAQ’s

  • Players should have a solid foundation of basketball skills and an understanding of team play.

  • Players should bring indoor shoes and water bottle.

  • Coaches may use tools like TeamSnap to keep players and families updated. Parent communication is key for smooth tournament and practice planning.
