Age Eligibility Policy

Purpose: The purpose of this policy is to ensure fair competition by verifying all players meet the age requirements for their registered division.

Age Eligibility: All players must meet the age requirements for the division in which their team is registered, as set out by the

Alberta Basketball Association. Proof of age may be required at any time during the tournament.

Challenge Procedure

1. A team wishing to challenge the age eligibility of a player on another team must submit a formal Age Eligibility Challenge Form to the Tournament Coordinator. This form can be found on the LMBA website, or hard copies will be available at the gym. Please ask the Gym Marshal if you are wanting a form.

2. Email a copy or picture of the form to: battle.lmba@gmail.com

3. The challenge must be submitted within an hour of the end of the game in which the player is participating and can ONLY be submitted by the head coach of a team or organization director. NOT a parent.

4. A challenge fee of $100 must accompany the form at the time of submission. This fee can be transferred to the same email above. No challenge will be invested until an e-transfer is received.

Fee Policy

• If the challenge is upheld (the player is found to be ineligible), the challenge fee will be refunded in full to the challenging team by e-transfer.

• If the challenge is denied (the player is verified as eligible), the challenge fee will be forfeited and retained by the tournament.

• The Challenge Fee is required to:

  • Cover administrative review costs

  • Prevent misuse of the challenge process

  • Ensure only serious concerns are submitted

Verification Process

1. The challenged team must provide official proof of age for the player in question (government-issued ID, passport, or birth certificate).

2. The Tournament Director or designated committee will review the documentation.

3. The decision of the Tournament Director will be final.

Consequences of Ineligible Players

If a player is found to be ineligible:

• The player will be removed from the tournament immediately.

• The team may be subject to forfeiture of games in which the player participated.

• Additional disciplinary action may be taken at the discretion of the Tournament Coordinator.
